Speaking of enshittification. When I click there, it shows for a second and they says something broke. Well clearly it worked well enough to work for that part of a second.

Twitter, like most social media, has gotten progressively worse. Replace x.com with xcancel.com to use the nitter frontend which is much lighter and more readable. Also lets you see more replies without an account.

I almost shared the Xcancel link, but opted for the source link instead. Serves me right.

I also usually post the original link, then add a mirror and frontend in a comment. Unless it's a paywalled article, then I sometimes post the archive.today link and add the original source in a comment.

There's a number of mod expansion packs for Skyrim that look promising.

Maybe infinite money doesn't help. Constraints help productivity. Obviously too little money doesn't help a project's productivity either. Just a theory that wouldn't shock me if true; I wonder if there is a correlation with budget and useful creativity where there is a sweet spot in the middle. Obviously other variable can and should dominate over that. But if you could only look at that one variable.

Then in theory, more creative an interesting projects produce a higher ROI.

You can't solve problems by throwing money at them. That is how we got into this big US debt.

What if we did pay congress more. But for every dollar they spend, 1 penny comes out of their combined pockets. Now a looming war with a likely +1T cost doesn't look so attractive.

Trump did the war with EO, not congress. So does Trump pay then?

Infinite money and insulation from consequences. Market signals exist for a reason, and insulation from them means you eventually turn out crap. Just look at Hollywood.

I'd hate to say more money should go into marketing. But if more money is going to spoil creativity then it's probably better spent there. As much as the world needs less marketing in general.

That or hold onto your money and thus get a higher ROI. Scale projects to appropriate sizes. But we have a keynsian market where our gdp depends on investors being flush with artificial cash and incentivized by inflation to over invest in things that don't need it.

Fast, cheap, and under control, and let the customers decide what they like instead of "managing" them.

Video game companies are likely being constantly bailed out by the fed reserve. They are forced to make woke games, the shareholders would sue cuz of less profits, but not if they're bribed under the table. Kevin warsh fed chairman is vague about doing bailouts or not. They might have done covid partly as an excuse to do otherwise unpopular bailouts.

I seriously, seriously doubt any of the dinosaurs at the Fed have any understanding or interest in the video game industry. There are plenty of other potential figures who could be putting their thumbs on the scales. Starting with woke investment companies like Blackrock.

Video game industry is huge, they're interested. It can be used for society shaping.

Bread & Circuses for apathy, distraction, division, etc.

Boys don't grow to be men who fight back.

We need to invest more money in Steam to get Windows games ported to GNU/Linux and take the gamers off Windows and onto SteamOS/Linux.

We? Let valve invest money in their steam platform. They already got steam on Linux but that's just cuz they'd control it and not Microsoft/windows. Steam is a monopoly too tho so nothing would change.

This is also asking how they can have so many employees and the employees make trash, says bungee has 3 thousand employees but they're all working on destiny 2 content? Could it be the corps lie and don't really have that many employees and are just using AI now? Crazy talk?

There are solo artists and 3 man teams making some of the best indy games. To me it seems if you scale it to 20 and give them a year to make something really cool, you should get something really cool.

With 3000 employees, you should be able to make 150 really cool games a year, instead of one bad one over 3 years.

I'd blame the management, their organizing and systems, and the human resources recruiters before I blame the grunts.

If you don't know what you're doing, how can you manage it? No imagination or vision - then it will suck.

If you can't be clear about the objectives and build systems to implement it, how can it come to pass?

If you don't hire talented craftsmen, then who's going to make it?

Further, there are way more than enough books on writing/storytelling/screenwriting/gaming to be able to draft up a practical checklist that will get you 95% of the way there.

Really there are no excuses.

They are too busy with DEI hires from India and Pakistan who jack off to OnlyFans instead of working. They can't be fired because they work so cheaply. They don't speak or read English, so it is hard to communicate with them what management wants. They waste money as a tax write-off.
