Iran is limited by 7th century thinking.
At least 7th century thinking isn't easily coopted by Israel. Everyone looks at every previous generation as backward, with litte awareness that they will be seen as backwards too. The reality is every generation is backwards. Just differently backwards. And ours, like any other, is too.
When compared to the 7th century, we are merely peers in stupidity.

That doesn't make them a threat to us. While being politically co-opted by a foreign government is a very serious geopolitical threat. There is no end to the quagmires we can get forced into. It also makes it hard to prioritize and manage our other aliances that are actually useful. And we actually need the ones in Europe and Asia. But when we don't actually make decisions for ourselves those relationships are going to be neglected, if there is no direct utility for our foreign masters.
Also, if you want this war to force a cultural change in Iran, good luck with that. Remember when we tried that in Afganistan and flew pride flags at our consolates. Then the Taliban took over again. If you are going into Iran with that aim you really are signing up for a forever war you can't win. Better to just lose the cheap way. Shipping navel vessles back to our hemisphere is a lot cheaper, and we get to the same conclusion 30 years faster.
