I think Trump tends to dig his own grave on a lot of things, but Comey did lie. So indicting him shouldn't dig a grave unless you are saying there is a deep state that is above the law that even the president shouldn't cross.

If that's the case you just showed that the MAGA crowd are completely justified in thinking that the dems + the deep state are part of a corrupt cabal. And this becomes one of the few things I support Trump in.

Sorry buddy, no need to be under oath. Any deliberately false statements made to Congress are a crime, although the free speech protections may give the members somewhat more latitude, in congressional debate.

I'm not talking down to you. I'm just telling the truth. If you feel I'm talking down to you, that may be your judgement, not mine.

My point is that everyone lies to Congress, all the time, so, it's not really a crime, except when people are being set up for a fall.

Well now you are contradicting yourself. First you thought it was "good heavens" material for me to think that Comey lying under oath is a crime, and then you agree that it is.

So how is Trump digging a grave by the fact that the DOJ, which is independent of him, is indicting something you agree is a criminal act?

I'm using the term "crime" in a nuanced way, not a literal one. Pretty much everything is a crime, if you want to look closely enough at things. Crime becomes significant, if it has significant negative consequences. If Mr. Trump is going to nit-pick Mr. Comey, we're really going to have to look at the kind of stunts Trump's been pulling his entire life. Mr. Trump is getting the people very, very angry at him, and, he, and his entire family will, I believe be paying very severe consequences for this in the not too distant future. This isn't just my opinion, of course, as you know.
