Dude, no. Unlike in Florida, where pension plans have been sold off and destroyed by their right wing governors, that's incredibly illegal in NYC. And if it ever happened in NYC, there would be riots - by fire, police, and all other state personnel. Anyhow, the facts:

New York Times: "New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani recently proposed delaying or reducing the city's mandatory contributions to municipal employee pension funds. The controversial maneuver was designed to help close a projected $5.4 billion budget deficit and free up tax dollars for the city's historic $124.7 billion budget." (https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/23/nyregion/mamdani-pension-funds.html) It was a proposal that went over like a lead balloon.

Because state law strictly governs the city's pension funds, Mayor Mamdani cannot execute this plan unilaterally; it requires approval from the city comptroller, governor, and state legislature.
